Governing freshness, accuracy and consistency

Factual content should be governed with the same discipline as financial data. It needs ownership, controls and a review cadence.

At minimum, this means assigning a single accountable owner for public facts; maintaining a register of the organisation’s most repeated claims with approved wording and evidence; establishing change-control for material updates such as pricing models, leadership changes, eligibility criteria or safety guidance; and having a clear approach to retiring or correcting outdated material that continues to circulate.

Neglecting legacy content does not reduce its influence. In AI-mediated discovery, it often increases it.

Separating promotion from truth

Promotional messaging evolves by design. Factual explanation must not.

Brands should make an explicit internal distinction between the campaign layer and the truth layer. Campaign content can be expressive, persuasive and time-bound. The truth layer should be stable, plain and unambiguous.

The rule is uncomplicated. Campaigns may be bold. The truth layer should be boring – and correct.
